How does the two party system in the us compare to other party systems

In a two-party system, a voter who supports the view of one party on one topic, but supports the view of the other party on another topic, is forced to compromise one of their views. A multi-party system, on the other hand, allows each citizen to vote for the party that best fits their complex beliefs.
