Which of the following poems most clearly uses its rhyme scheme to defy the

reader's expectations?

A. From my window I spy/a singing, perching magpie.

B. Roses are red, / violets are blue, / weekdays are long, / and
weekends are few.

C. Voices in a crowded hall, / laughing at a princely ball, / but I am an
empty shell.

D. On a summer evening I told an idle joke / and, alas, summer froze
and became winter.

I’d say B, it clearly shows how school days are very long. But it also shows how weekends are very short.

Answer:

Option C. Voices in a crowded hall, / laughing at a princely ball, / but I am an

empty shell.

Step-by-step explanation:

A rhyme scheme follows a form of sounds and intonation wich are similar to each other. The final letters in each line must share the same letters between each of the lines. In the example above we can see how the pattern is being respected with the use of double L at the end of each line.
