Let

s ----> the speed in mph

x ----> the distance in miles

y ---> the time in hours


s=(x)/(y)

we have


s=55\ mi/h


y=2(1)/(2)\ h=(2*2+1)/(2)=(5)/(2)\ h

substitute in the formula and solve for x


55=(x)/((5/2))


x=(5/2)55\\x=137.5\ mi
