Explanation:

The equation of line passing through two points is determined by formula:


y-y_(1)=(y_(2)-y_(1))/(x_(2) - x_(1))(x - x_(1))

Here, (x₁ , y₁) = (4, 8)

and (x₂, y₂) = (6, 2)

Putting these value in above formula. We get,


y-8=(2-8)/(6 - 4)(x - 4)


y-8=(-6)/(2)(x - 4)

⇒ ( y - 8) = -3 (x - 4)

⇒ y - 8 = -3x + 12

⇒ 3x + y = 20

which is required equation.
