Explanation:

First we would solve for each fraction. 52/3 can be written as 52 divided by 3, which would be 17.3 where the 3 repeats itself forever. So we round it to 17, because the tenths place is smaller than 5, so we would round down.

2/3 can also be written as 2 divided by 3, which is 0.66 whereas the 6 repeats itself forever. But because we want to round to the nearest whole number, we look at the tenths digit which is 6. And 6 > 5, so we would round the ones digit up to, 1.

Now we have our whole numbers, we rewrite it as 17 + 1, and the sum is 1.
