to take sales tax, you convert the % into a decimal ( in this case 5% is equal to 0.05) and multiply that by the cost of the product:

9,000 x 0.05 = 450

that is the amount that you pay in tax. In order to get the entire total add that amount to the original price:

9,000 + 450 = 9,450
