Answer:

Explanation:

x= -10

(if you are solving for the x value):

-4x+2=42

subtract two to both sides to cancel the two from the side with -4x

-4x+2-2=42-2

-4x=40

then divide both sides by -4 to get the x by its self

-4x/-4=40/-4

so..

x= -10

Answer:

x = -10

Explanation:

move all the constants (numbers without variables) to one side to get

-4x = 42 - 2

-4x = 40

multiply by -1

4x = -40

divide by 4

x = -10
