Makayla runs a farm stand that sells raspberries and peaches. Each pound of raspberries sells for $2 and each pound of peaches sells for $3. Makayla sold 6 more pounds of peaches than pounds of raspberries and made $103 altogether. Determine the number of pounds of raspberries sold and the number of pounds of peaches sold

Explanation:

Let

x ----> the number of pounds of raspberries sold

y ----> the number of pounds of peaches sold

we know that


2x+3y=103 -----> equation A


y=x+6 -----> equation B

Solve the system by substitution

Substitute equation B in equation A and solve for x


2x+3(x+6)=103


2x+3x+18=103


5x=103-18


5x=85


x=17\ pounds

Find the value of y


y=17+6=23\ pounds

therefore

The number of pounds of raspberries sold was 17 and the number of pounds of peaches sold was 23
