Answer:

AED stands for Automated External Defibrillator. AEDs are used when the heart rate increases to an extent where very less blood are pumped to the body. AEDs are the devices that are put on the chest region to bring back the heart rate to normal.

AEDs are powered by batteries that provides current to control the contraction and relaxation of heart muscle. Victims upto the age of eight are given AEDs with smaller pads as they require less energy for the same dose of defibrillation.

ANSWER:

Younger children who are below the age of 8 requires smaller AED pads.

Step-by-step explanation:

  • An AED or "Automated External Defibrillator" is a device that can analyze the rhythm of the heart and provide a shock needed for defibrillation.
  • The AED pads are made for adults but smaller children also prone to cardiac arrests. These pads are adjusted to give the smaller dose of a shock for small children.
  • These pads are applied to the chest and the back. There should not be any contact with the victim’s body when the person is subjected to shock.
