At a stock exchange there were a total of 10,000 shares sold in one day. Stock A had four times as many

shares sold as Stock B. The number of shares sold for Stock C was equal to the sum of the numbers of
shares sold for Stock A and Stock B. How many shares of each stock were sold?

Answer:

Share sold by Stock A = 4000, Stock B = 1000 and Stock C = 5000

Explanation:

Total sold sold = 10000

i.e.
A + B + C = 10000 ....(1)

Shares sold by stock A = 4 × Shares sold by stock B

i.e.
A = 4B ....(2)

Shares sold by stock C = Shares sold by stock A + Shares sold by stock B

i.e.
C = A + B ....(3)

substituting value of
A from (2) in (3) we get


C = 4B + B = 5B ....(4)

substituting value of
A and
C from (2) and (4) in (1) we get


4B + B + 5B = 10000\\10B = 10000\\B = 1000


A = 4B = 4*1000 = 4000


C = 5B = 5*1000 = 5000
