8x-12= 4x

move -12 to the other side

sign changes from -12 to +12

8x-12+12= 4x+12

8x=4x+12

move 4x to the other side.

sign changes from +4x to -4x

8x-4x= 4x-4x+12

8x-4x= 12

4x=12

divide both sides by 4 to get x by itself

4x/4= 12/4

Answer: x= 3
