What is a scientific notation?

I missed school so I wasn’t there for the lesson, please help!

Scientific notation is a way of writing long numbers, often with a lot of zeros, in a shorter and easier to read format.

Explanation:

As an example I will use 360

first move the decimal so the number is larger than one but less than ten

So the number will be 3.60

to make it equal to 360 it would be 3.6 x 10^2 multiplying 3.6 by 10 to the power of 2 will make it 360. for a more in depth and probably better explination I would check khan academy.
