Answer:

Acequia refers as a common water reservoir used in Spain for irrigation and for earlier Spanish colonies in America. The Romans introduced this technology for occupation to the Iberian Peninsula. Afterwards, the Arabs expanded their use, although they originally came from Persia.

Later, this technology was adopted by the Spaniards and Portuguese and used in the conquered lands. The oldest American Acequias were created over 400 years ago. Many of them are still continue it as the vital source of water for farms and animal husbandry in some parts of the US.
