First remember that SUM is the addition of two things

You can rewrite the unknown "number" as (x)

You can rewrite the entire phrase as:

2(x+600)

Now use Distributive property to simplify the phrase. It should look like this:

2x+1200

You cannot simplify this anymore, giving you the final answer of 2x+1200
