HELP!!!! Manatees are a protected species in Florida. Causes of death (mortality) are studied to determine the greatest threats to their populations and to help develop protection plans. The table shows the percent of mortality due to various causes over a ten year period. Based on this data, what would be the two most effective regulations to introduce to protect both manatee adults and calves this region? (The last answer says “the development of marine protected areas and regulations to reduce runoff.”

Answer:

Enforcement of no wake zones and protection of warmer areas

Step-by-step explanation:

The table shows that the greater mortality for adult manatees are watercraft (0.62) and also watercraft causes a rather high mortality for manatee calves (0.16) which is second only to cold stress (0.49). It can be seen that cold stress causes a high mortality in the calves and it can cause some mortality to adult manatees as well (0.10). In fact, cold stress is the second highest cause of death in adult manatees after watercraft. Therefore the two greatest threats to both adult manatees and calves are watercraft and cold stress. The enforcement of no wake zones and protection of warmer areas takes both threats into consideration and should help the most to protect the manatee population in Florida.
