Suzy designed an experiment to test what type of cup could be used to boil water using heat energy from the sun. Which cup design do you think worked best? (Note: all the cups were the same size and shape)

A) A clear plastic cup.
B)A white ceramic cup.
c)A metal cup with a glossy, black surface.
D) A metal cup with a matte, black surface.

Answer:

The answer is probably D.

Step-by-step explanation:

It's clearly not A and B. So, It all "boils" down to option C and D. Black surface absorbs the most heat, but also gives it out easily (Kirchoff's law of radiation). Now a metal cup with a glossy surface is going or reflect some of the light that strikes it. But a matte black surface helps it absorb the heat even though it can emit that heat fast.
