9^(x - 1) = 27

ln[9^(x - 1)] = ln 27

ln9(x - 1) = ln 27

xln9 - ln9 = ln 27

xln9 = [ln 27 + ln 9]

x = [ln 27 + ln 9]/ln 9

x = 5/2
