Answer: 84 = 8p - 1 (or $84 = $8p - $1, but it is usually put together like the first equation)

Step-by-step explanation: $84 is the break even point, so the equation must be able to come out to at least $84 if it is correct.

$84 in equation is break even

8p/$8p is the price per painting

-1/-$1 is the addition from the canvas

Answer: Hello mate!

We know that Xavier spent $84 on art supplies. For each painting, he spends $1 on the canvas and sells each paint for $8.

The proffit equation is:

Q(p) = ($8 -$1)p - $84 = $7p - $84

where p is the number of paintings that he sells.

If we want to obtain the number of paintings that he needs to sell in order to break even, we need to calculate:

Q(p) = 0 = $7p - $84

$7p = $84

p = 84/7 = 12

He needs to sell 12 paints to break even.
