For this case we must factor the following expression:

3x ^ 2-8x + 5

We rewrite the middle term as a sum of two terms whose product is

a * c = 3 * 5 = 15

And whose sum is

b = -8

These numbers are:

-5 and -3

So:

3x ^ 2-5x-3x + 5

We factor the maximum common denominator of each group:
x (3x-5) - (3x-5)

We take common factor
(3x-5):

(3x-5) (x-1)

Answer:

(3x-5) (x-1)
