The number of home runs by player A and player B for a season are consecutive odd integers whose sum is 88. Determine the number of homers hit by player A and by player B.

So, we don't know the number of home runs done by the players but we do know that the sum those home runs are 88.

If we say that player A did "x" home runs and let's assume this one is the player that did less home runs, therefore player B did the same number of home runs plus 2 because they are consecutive odd integers.

Therefore:

Home runs of Player A = x;

Home runs of Player B = x +2;

So we get that our equation is:

Home runs of Player A + Home runs of Player B = 88

x + x + 2 = 88

2x + 2 = 88

2x = 88 - 2

2x = 86

x = 86/2

x = 43

Home runs of Player A = x = 43

Home runs of Player B = x +2 = 43 + 2 = 45

Therefore, the total home runs of player A is 43 and of player B is 45
