In this reaction mechanism, the ethoxide will take an hydrogen from carbon 2 forming ethanol. At the same time the bond electrons left behind by the hydrogen will form a double bond with the carbon 1 and the the methyl will be eliminated with irs electrons from the bond forming ethoxide.
