Answer: The apple costs 0.45

Step-by-step explanation: Oranges will be x in our equations and Apples will be y.

Anna's equation is: 3x + 6y = 4.5 (1)

Maria's equation is: 2x + 2y = 2.1 (2)

As we need to find y, we need to cancel x, this way, we multiply equation (1) by 2 and equation (2) by 3.

3x + 6y = 4.5 (x2)

2x + 2y = 2.1 (x3)

6x + 12y = 9

6x + 6y = 6.3

Now, we subtract them

6x + 12y = 9

-6x - 6y = -6.3

________________

6y = 2.7 → y = 2.7/6 → y = 0.45
