y -----> the highest elevation in a region

we have that

x=-264 ft

y=+20,480 ft

We know that

To find out the change in elevation from the lowest elevation to the highest elevation, subtract the lowest elevation from the highest elevation (or find the difference in absolute value)

so

y-x

substitute the values


20,480-(-264)


20,480+264=20,744\ ft
