Benito and Tyler are painting

opposite sides of the same fence. Tyler has
already painted 19 1/2 feet of his side of the fence
when Benito starts painting.
Benito:
Painting rate
15 ft/min
Tyler:
Painting rate
11 ft/min
150 ft
How long will it take for both sides to have an equal number of feet painted?

Answer:

4(7)/(8)\text{ minutes}

Explanation:

Let x be the number of minutes after which both sides have equal number of feet painted,

∵ One side of the fence is painted by Benito,

His speed = 15 ft/min

So, the number of feet painted in one side after x minutes = 15x,

Now, second side of the fence is painted by Taylor,

The feet he already painted =
19(1)/(2),

Taylor's speed = 11 ft/min

Thus, the number of feet painted in second side after x minutes =
19(1)/(2)+11x,

15x = 19(1)/(2)+11x

4x = 19(1)/(2)

4x = (39)/(2)

\implies x = (39)/(8)=4(7)/(8)\text{ minutes}

Hence, it will take
4(7)/(8) minutes for both sides to have an equal number of feet painted.
