Answer: The Cresent moon is any time less than half the moon is lit by the sun. A Cresent moon is going from the third to first quarter. It's any time more than half the moon is lit by the sun. We are in a gibbons moon form the first to third quarter

We see the side of the Moon that is not being lit by the Sun. To be shorter we can say that there is no Moon at all, because the brightness of the Sun block the dim Moon. When the Moon is exactly lined up with the Sun we experience an eclipse.
