Two trains leave stations 312 miles apart at the same time and travel toward each other. One train travels at 75 miles per hour while the other travels at 55 miles per hour. How long will it take for the two trains to meet? Do not do any rounding.

In order for the two trains to meet, the sum of the two trains' distance will be 312 miles.

We can set up an equation


75T + 55T = 312\\130T = 312\\T = (312)/(130)=(12)/(5)=2.4

It will take 2.4 hours for the two trains to meet.
