20= 1/2 (4x-6)

Multiply the bracket by 1/2.

(1/2)(4x)=2x ( cross out 2 and 4, divide by 2)

2/2=1, 4x/2=2x

(1/2)(-6)=-3 ( cross out 2 and -6 , divide by 2)

2/2=-1 , -6/2=-3

20=2x-3

Move -3 to the other side. Sign changes from -3 to +3.

20+3=2x-3+3

20+3=2x

23=2x

Divide by 2 for both sides.

23/2=2x/2

x=23/2 and x=11 1/2

Answer: x=23/2 and x=11 1/2
