Sarah took the advertising department from her company on a round trip to meet with a potential client. Including Sarah a total of 10 people took the trip. She was able to

purchase coach tickets for $360 and first class tickets for $1140. She used her total budget for airfare for the trip, which was $8280. How many first class tickets did she buy?

I think one of the easiest ways to start this is by dividing her total budget by the price of a first class ticket. ($8280/$1140 =7.26) Now it’s just a matter of finding out whether she could afford all 7 tickets and still have money left over for the other 3 coach tickets. ($1140x7=$7980). If you add the price of one coach ticket, you’re already over budget so try going down by one. ($1140x6=$6840). You’ll need to purchase 4 coach tickets which amount to $1440 ($360x4=$1440). Add them together and you’re right on budget. ($6840+$1440=$8280).

Answer:

She bought six first class tickets.

Explanation:

360 × 4 = 1,440

1140 × 6 = 6,840

1,440 + 6,840 = 8,280

hope this helps :)
