Why is average temperature in Albuquerque (USA, New Mexico) higher than in Athens (Greece)?

Albuquerque is located over 1600 m. above sea-level and Athens only 79. How is it possible?

for the first question the temperature in Albuquerque new mexico is not higher than the average temperature in Athens Greece. because the average temperature in Athens Greece is 84 degrees Fahrenheit and in new mexico its 78 degrees Fahrenheit

for the second question

i believe it's just the matter of the location because athens is closer to the ocean which means it is closer to sea level mean while albuquerque is farther from an ocean and in fact i believe have no ocean
