Solving a mixture problem involving percent

5 kg of mixed nuts containing 40% peanuts were mixed with 15 kg of another kind of mixed nuts that contain 56% peanuts. peanuts are what percent of the new mixture?

Answer:

52%

Explanation:

40% nuts of 5kg = 40% × 5 = 2kg

56% nuts of 15kg = 56% × 15kg = 8.4kg

total of nuts in mixture = 2 + 8.4 = 10.4kg

10.4kg of nuts in 20kg = 10.4/20 = 52%
