his 1st treatise : he didnt believe kings got their authority from God

government:

natural law, social contract, religious toleration, and the right to revolution

social contract : unspoken agreement between individuals to give up certain natural rights in order to enjoy the benefits of society. ex giving up yelling

power is limited to the public good

could be overthrown if it failed to respect people's rights

should promote public good & protect right of life, liberty & property

echoed in the American Declaration of Independence.

theory of natural rights : law of nature : natural moral law that underpins right & wrong

all people are made equal, therefore, they should be treated equally
