Pablo takes classes at both Westside Community College and Pinewood Community College. At Westside, class fees are per credit hour, and at Pinewood, class fees are per credit hour. Pablo is taking a combined total of credit hours at the two schools. Suppose that he is taking credit hours at Westside. Answer:

Total Fees =
100*W + 150*(20-W)

Explanation:

We don't know how much class fees are per college but let's use some numbers for each fee to complete our expression.

Let the class fees at Westside be = $100 per credit hour

Let the class fees at Pinewood be = $150 per credit hour

Let the combined total of credit hours = 20 hr

And suppose that he is taking
W credit hours at Westside and

he is taking
P credit hours at Westside.

So we know that:

P + W = 20;

Therefore:

P = 20 - W;

So our expression can be written: as

Total Fees =
100*W + 150*P

and if we substitute the P, we get:

Total Fees =
100*W + 150*(20-W)
