My experience interacting with people whose backgrounds are different from yours came when I participated in a program to help children who had poor quality of life due to financial deficiencies. The program consisted of spending a day with the children, playing, talking and providing a fun day for them. Seeing the children happy and having fun even with all the financial and family problems they went through, I began to create a strong empathic feeling for people who live different realities than mine. In addition, I began to realize how often we complain about futile things and feel sad about passing things.
The children had a very poor quality of life, but they spent the whole day with a smile on their faces even when it was time to return to their homes and their precarious realities. This has changed my perspective on looking at a sad moment as the end of the world, but keep smiling knowing that better days will come.
