Problem Page A certain drug is made from only two ingredients: compound A and compound B. There are 6 milliliters of compound A used for every 5 milliliters of compound B. If a chemist wants to make 946 milliliters of the drug, how many milliliters of compound B are needed?

Explanation :

As we are given that:

There are 6 milliliters of compound A used for every 5 milliliters of compound B. That means,

Volume of compound A = 6 mL

Volume of compound B = 5 mL

Total volume = Volume of compound A + Volume of compound B

Total volume = 6 mL + 5 mL = 11 mL

Now we have to calculate the volume of compound B needed to make 946 mL of the drug.

As, 11 mL of drug needed 5 mL of compound B

So, 946 mL of drug needed
(5)/(11)* 946=430mL of compound B

And the volume of compound A needed = 946 mL - 430 mL = 516 mL

Therefore, the volume of compound B needed to make 946 mL of the drug is, 430 mL
