The perimeter of a parallelogram is 72 meters. The width of the parallelogram is 4 meters less than its length. Find the length and width of the parallelogram.

Answer:

length = 20 mt

Width = 16 mt

Explanation:

Let the length of the field be x

width of the field be y

Hence formula of the perimeter is given as

P=2(x+y)

P=72(given)

72=2(x+y)

Dividing both sides by 2 we get

x+y=36---(A)

Also given that width of the parallelogram is 4 meters less than its length

Hence

y=x-4

or x-y=4 ---(B)

Adding A and B

2x=40

x=20

y=x-4

y=20-4=16

Hence length = 20 mt

Width = 16 mt
