How did the invention of the cotton gin affect slavery in the United States?

the invention of cotton gin increased the slavery in the south in 1974, because more slaves were needed to work on cotton plantation.

The invention of Eli Whitney's cotton gin (or engine) in 1794 essentially increased slavery in the American South at the time. The cotton gin made cleaning cotton much faster and easier. As such, cotton production was very much increased, and therefore more slaves were needed to work on the cotton plantations
