Factory owners wanted to prevent unions from forming because it disrupted the owners income. People during the earlier years of the 20th century were fairly money hungry, exploiting and abusing workers. Because of this treatment and gross underpayment, unions began to form to protect workers and hold factory owners to a higher standard.
