Illiteracy is the lack of knowledge of the alphabet, which means that the individual is not able to read and write. It is usually common in underdeveloped countries where there are several factors that prevent people from being interested in education or at least from participating in an educational institution.
This social problem compromises the lives of good citizens, as the competitive market demands more and more knowledge, preventing them from getting better jobs, also compromising the country's growth and development. In this way, illiterate citizens end up taking low-paid and marginalized jobs, which reduces their quality of life tremendously.
