Answer is 250 hamburgers

First our equation

We know there are x cheeseburgers and y hamburgers for a total of 448

And we know there are 52 fewer cheeseburgers sold than hamburgers

x + y = 448
x = y - 52

Solve by substituting the 2nd equation “x” value into the first equation

y-52+ y = 448

Combine like terms

2y - 52 = 448

add 52 to both sides to isolate y

2y -52 + 52 = 448 + 52

2y = 500

Now divide both sides by 2 to solve for y

2/2 y = 500/2
y = 250 hamburgers

Now substitute our y value into one equation to solve for x

x + 250 = 448

Subtract 250 from both sides to solve for x

x + 250 - 250 = 448 - 250

X = 198 cheeseburgers

We can check our work by substituting our x and y values into one of the equations
x = y - 52

198 = 250 - 52
198 = 198

Problem solved!
