Rectangle A has a width of 12 and a length of x. Rectangle B has a width of (x-2) and a length of 16. Find the value of x so that the rectangles have the same area.

Answer:

x = 8

Explanation:

If the rectangle have the same area

then....

Rectangle A = Rectangle B

12 × x = 16 × (x - 2)

12x = 16x - 32....then rearrange the equation..by putting the x-variables to one side

32 = 16x - 12x

32 = 4x

Hence...x = 8
