when looking for Endoplasmic reticulum of a cell, the microscope zooms in enough to see ribosomes that are embedded in the outside of the Endoplasmic Reticulum. Which type of Endoplasmic Reticulum is this

Answer:

Rough

Step-by-step explanation:

There are two types of endoplasmic reticulum present in eukaryotic cells: the rough endoplasmic reticulum and the smooth endoplasmic reticulum.

Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum

The rough endoplasmic reticulum is described as rough because of ribosomes studding its surface, which give it a bumpy appearance under the microscope. Ribosomes and the rough endoplasmic reticulum work together to produce proteins. Ribosomes release their protein products into the spacious lumen of the rough endoplasmic reticulum, where these crude protein products are folded, processed, and then transported to other parts of the cell.

Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum

The smooth endoplasmic reticulum is similar to the rough endoplasmic reticulum in form, except it has few or no ribosomes. Its primary function is to manufacture lipids or fats. It can also perform detoxification functions for the cell.

Thanks so much! Have an incredible day!

P.S. If you downloaded the Biology_Lesson 2 PDF, provided by Penn Foster, then you will be able to find this exact information on Page 14.

P.P.S If you have no idea what I am referring to, then follow these quit instructions:

First, sign in with your Username, Student ID, or Email with your password.

Second, on your home page click "Resume Course," then, at the top left-hand corner of your screen, click where it says, "Biology" (in blue).

After that, it is going to bring you to a whole new page, and on that page, you are going to look for ALL CAPS LETTERS in bold that read, "Download Course Materials." Below that title will be an orange-colored button that says "SELECT," click on that.

Lastly, choose whatever lesson(s) that you need (in this case, Lesson 2, The Cells and its Processes), and when you are ready to download your PDF(s) click the orange button, at the bottom, that reads, "DOWNLOAD SELECTED." By doing that, it will bring you back to the page you were just on and you will see up underneath the title, "Download Course Materials," where it shows a grey button that says, "View PDF." Once that button changes to the color orange, click on it and the PDF(s) will then be downloaded. All Done! It's that simple!

Hope this helps!

And if so, please leave a valid rating! Thanks so much! (✿◠‿◠)

Answer:

Rough ER

Step-by-step explanation:

This type of Endoplasmic Reticulum has ribosomes around its outer membranes hence is a major organelle in the processing of cell proteins. When polypeptide chains are formed in the ribosomes, they enter the lumen of the RER where they are folded properly using chaperones and post-translational modification carried out on them.
