50 - 10n - 1 = 29

- 10n + 50 - 1 = 29

- 10n + 49 = 29

- 10n = 29 - 49

-10 n = -20

n = -20/-10

n = 2

10(5-n)-1=29

Mutiply the bracket by 10

(10)(5)(10)(-n)-1= 29

50-10n-1= 29

50-1-10n= 29

49-10n= 29

move +49 to the other side

sign changes from +49 to -49

49-49-10n= 29-49

-10n= -20

divide by -10

-10n/-10= -20/-10

n= 2

Check answer by using the substitution method

10(5-n)-1= 29

10(5-2)-1= 29

Do 5-2= 3

10*3=30

30-1= 29

Answer : n= 2
