What causes a rain shadow?

2. Huge clouds formed by rising and cooling air block sunlight on lee side of mountain.
3. Dry air moving from desert regions pushes moist air away from mountain ranges.
4. Mountain ranges cause air masses to cool and stabilize water vapor before it gets to lee side.
