x+3y = 1 equation 1

-5x+4y = -5 equation 2

using equation 1 we have:

x+3y = 1

x= 1-3y equation 3

using equation 3 in equation 2 we have:

-5(1-3y) +4y = -5

-5 + 15y +4y = -5

19y -5 = -5

19y = -5 +5

19y = 0

y=0

so we have:

x= 1-3y

x= 1- 3(0)

x=1
