Having the same digits next to each other means the digit at the left side is ten times greater than the digit to the right side. We start our place value with ones then tens then hundreds, thousands and so on.

This shows that each consecutive place to the left is 10 times greater than the right place.

For example if we have a number 32664.

Here we have two 6's beside each other. The one to the right is in the tens place 6*10 = 60, The one to the left is in the hundreds place, making it 6*100 = 600. This shows that 600 is ten times greater than 60....
