Answer:

4 hours

Explanation:

Lets use C as Courtney and H as Horacio.

Since H started his way out 1 hour after C departed, we can say that: by this moment C already has traveled 1 hour and has 8 miles ahead.

When H catch with C is traveled distance must be the same

Distance traveled by C since H Started to move: X (rendezvous point)=Sc*Tc

Distance traveled by H: 8 miles + X (rendezvous point)=Sc*Th

From this moment Tc=Th so they can catch up.

Eq. 1

x=8*Th (8 is the speed of C)

8+x=10*th (10 Is the speed of H)

Two equations.

If Subtract the thow equations we will have this>

We have 8=2th

th=4 hours.

Remember that Speed (S)= Distance/Time= X/T, hence X=S*Time
