The numerator of a fraction is 5 more than its denominator.

If 3 is added to both the numerator and denominator,
the fraction reduces to 3. Find the original fradon if
x is its denominator.

Answer: x= -(1/2)

Explanation:

(x+5 +3) / x+3 = 3

Multiply both sides by (x+3)

(x+8)= 3(x+3)

x+8 = 3x+9

-2x = 1

x= -1/2

CHECK:

-1/2 +8 = 15/2 -1/2+3 =5/2

15/2 : 5/2 = 15/2*(2/5) = 30/10 = 3
