Cuneiform was used in ancient Mesopotamia (present-day Iraq) and other neighboring regions such as Iran, Syria, and Turkey. It was used by several cultures including the Sumerians, Babylonians, Assyrians, and Persians over a period of several millennia, from around the 4th millennium BCE to the 1st century CE.
