with (x₁, y₁ ) = (- 1,4) and (x₂, y₂ ) = (- 5, 3)

To find the midpoint use the midpoint formula

[0.5(x₁ + x₂ ), 0.5(y₁ + y₂ ) ]

Using the same points as above then

midpoint = [0.5(- 1- 5), 0.5(4 + 3 ) ] = [0.5(- 6), 0.5(7) ] = (- 3, 3.5 )
