Explanation:

50 - L = (1/2)L - 4

⇔ 50 + 4 = (1/2)L + L

⇔ 54 = (3/2)L

⇔ 2 × 54 = 3L

⇔ 108 = 3L

⇔ 3L = 108

⇔ L = 108/3

⇔ L = 36

Calculating the width ‘w’ :

w = (1/2)L - 4

Then

w = (1/2)(36) - 4

Then

w = 18 - 4

Then

w = 14
